 Crossing Over (2009)
3.5/5
2009-11-03 14:57
A Harrison Ford movie that doesn't suck and isn't covered in emotional goo all that much. Well, maybe it is, but it's quite a good watch. Almost makes me forget about firewall. 0.3

 Duplicity (2009)
0.5/5
2009-11-03 14:56
OMFG I spend money on going to see this one at the movies. Complete and utter waste of money and acting talent... 0.3

2.5/5
2009-11-03 14:52
Ok, it wasn't great. But it wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be. Mediocre actionflicks are still kinda cool to watch. 0.3

 The Proposal (2009/I)
2/5
2009-11-03 14:51
Your typical "They hate each other and end up falling in love"-movie. Not bad in its genre 0.3

 Hero Wanted (2008)
2/5
2008-10-22 21:16
Once in a while one of those simple, no-brainer action and or revenge movies comes around which get a low rating and bad reviews. It features an actor who's proven he's capable of good acting but he hardly ever does any... good acting that is. In this case; Cuba Gooding Jr. And then somehow you just know you shouldn't let this one pass. So you watch it and it turns out it was half decent. Enjoyable. 0.3

 The Art of Travel (2008)
1/5
2008-09-23 17:43
It seemed like the producers of this particular movie hadn't decided on what genre this movie was going to be in. Turned this movie off after about an hour, it just couldn't interest me. 0.3

 Transsiberian (2008)

An interesting film, without all the usual hollywood glare. Suspenseful and good for a slow night. 0.3

 In Bruges (2008)
2/5
2008-08-15 20:14
This is the second smaller production I've seen in which Colin Farrell shows he's a good actor. Weird film, but defenitely good to watch. Set in the Lovely Belgian city of Brugge. Very refreshing and funny at times. 0.3
-
 Made of Honor (2008)
1.5/5
2008-08-14 15:07
A very predictable, not so good a movie, but nonetheless fun if you're up for these kinds of flicks. The story is simple: guy dates a zillion girls but doesn't realise that his best friend is teh girl he's really in love with. When he does, it's too late and she's getting married. Will he win her over? Sure he will, they always do. My 4-year old nephew could've written this script. In its horrible genre it's not even that bad though. 0.3
-
 The Bank Job (2008)
2/5
2008-08-14 14:11
The Bankjob; a typical Jason Statham movie and it wasn't all bad I must say. Good action, good fun. 0.3
-
 August (2008)
1.5/5
2008-08-13 19:33
August has a not so great rating at IMDB, but that doesn't always have to mean a film is not worth watching. It was enjoyable. 0.3
-
 The Dark Knight (2008)
3/5
2008-08-12 13:43
The new Batman-movie? Nah, I'll pass, was my first reaction, but people'd keep telling me it was so great. And it was, good, I must admit. Ledger was just brilliant as the Joker. 3 hours is a long time to sit in a cinema though. Anyways, indeed a good film, but still a Batman film. So yeah ok, I liked it, but this is the last superhero movie this year for me. 0.3
-
 Fool's Gold (2008)
1.5/5
2008-08-07 20:26
A blond diving bum fighting with his beautiful blond girl 'cause he ain't going nowhere.. and just dreams of finding that long lost treasure. She hates him, till he finds it and then all the bad guys show up. I thought I had seen "Into the Blue" but I guess they decided it was soooo damn good that we needed a remake? Matthew Mc..ugh ughwhatever always has nice chemistry with Kate Hudson though, but ehm still.. This movie was made before and it wasn't good then. Anyways, no reason not to watch it, it's fun and they got blue seas and fish and what not. 0.3
-
 Smart People (2008)
2.5/5
2008-08-06 02:58
I loved sideways, although it took me a couple of tries and so I was pleasantly surprised to hear about "Smart People". Another good surprise was Ellen Page, who massively impressed in "Juno". Fun to watch! 0.3
-
 Hancock (2008)
2.5/5
2008-08-06 02:55
I tend to stay far away from superhero movies, but on the other hand, I always enjoy a good Will Smith action flick. He got the benefit of the doubt and lived up to some of my expectations; good action, good oneliners. It was funny at times and explosive as well. Not his best, nor Theron's but good enough for an evening of enjoyment. I am Legend was way better though. 0.3
-
 Taken (2008)
1.5/5
2008-08-06 02:53
Always fun to watch Liam Neeson and he is convincing in his role I guess. The story isn't original at all but if you feel like a payback action movie I guess this will do. Enjoyed it. 0.3

Steal This Film I & II
3.5/5
2008-06-27 16:33
Steal this Film, as opposed to "steal this movie" (whole different thing) is a somewhat homegrown double documentary about filesharing and copyrights in today's digital world. It's a docu that everyone should watch. The 20th century idea of copyright and intellectual property has become absolete in the 21th century and it's in people's nature to share and build and distribute and copy and produce, and communicate, is the message of the docu. Very refreshing. 0.3

 "Fringe" (2008)
3/5
2008-06-20 10:18
"Fringe" is the new television series of J.J. Abrams, who brought us "Lost" and, for those who remember, "Felicity". I've seen the pilot today and the old "X-files"-tune has been going through my head ever since. But I guess I'd have to see more of the series before I can say more about it. The Pilot Episode was exciting, fast, mysterious. Anna Torv is nice to look at and Joshua Jackson, well, Joshua Jackson just plays Joshua Jackson, as always, with his boyish charme and witty remarks. I for one always like that. Good and thrilling first episode, in a "The Truth is Out there"-ish kind of way. Owha and ehm.. I guess it's nice to see Kirk Acevedo again, after "The Black Donnelly's" got canceled, which was a darn shame. Looking forward to see more and be able to form a real opinion. 0.3

 21 (2008)
1.5/5
2008-06-05 08:57
There's a decent story here, isn't there? Some MIT-students who, led by a professor, take up card-counting and "beat the system", becoming rich in the process. Based on a true story too! But although it was fun to watch "21" wasn't all that good. Sturgess does well I guess and so does Kate Bosworth, and then there's Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburne, but I dunno. Ok, ok it was fun to watch. That's it. 0.3

 The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)
2/5
2008-05-27 12:50
A 6.9 at IMDB seems a bit high, but all and all "The Other Boleyn Girl" was ok I guess. Not one I'd mind having missed either though. 0.3
-
 The Black Balloon (2008)
3.5/5
2008-05-19 19:42
The Black Balloon was a pleasant surprise. I watched it in a sneak preview and enjoyed it very much. Ford portrays an autistic young man very well, as far as I can tell. It seemed very believeable. I must say Wakefield and Kowalski didn't always seem that believeable as 15-year olds, but that aside it was defenitely a film worth watching. 0.3

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead...
1.5/5
2008-04-22 17:52
Kind of a disappointment, with such a cast. I expected more of this. The story wasn't too good and even Ethan Hawke wasn't very convincing. Seymour Hoffman does ok I guess, but playing a weird fucked up person isn't really new to him, now is it? Quite a bummer actually. And Tomei seemed to have no other purpose in this flick then to take of her clothes, again and again and again. 0.3

 Run Fatboy Run (2007)

 Michael Clayton (2007)
2.5/5
2008-04-04 09:13
It took me 3 tries, but finally I was able to watch this film for a period longer then 10 min without falling asleep. And then when you do stay awake, it turns out to be quite a cool film. It takes a while to get through it in the beginning but it's well worth it. 0.3

 Cassandra's Dream (2007)
3/5
2008-03-28 21:31
I never figured myself for much of a Woody Allen fan. Cassandra's dream however turned to be a good one to watch. McGregor and Farrell are very natural as brothers and of course I wish someone had told me about Hayley Atwell sooner; she's beautiful! Way to go Woody I'd say! As far as the story itself: a simple and well written one, believable. 0.3
-
 Resurrecting the Champ (2007)
3/5
2008-03-11 00:44
Josh Hartnett & Samuel L. Jackson shine in this feel good movie about a journalist who writes a piece about an ex-boxer turned homeless person. It takes a while to get used to Jackson's characters high pitched voice, but once you're passed that, you;re up for a nice flick. Owh and Hartnett's wife is portrayed by that always scarily white chick from CSI or whatever. She's nice ;-) 0.3

Starting Out in the Evening (2007)
1.5/5
2008-03-03 17:40
The subject of this film intrigued me; I like movies about writing and writers, but even though it gets a 7.2 rating on IMDB I didn't think it was quite up to par. The story starts out fine but the emerging bond between the writer and the student seems unbelievable and the whole sexual tension that's there seems misplaced. After a while I even got more interested in the secondary storyline, in which the writer's daughter is the main character. I'm sorry to say I skipped fast through the last 20 minutes. It just couldn't keep me intrerested enough. It's not all bad though. 0.3
-
 August Rush (2007)
3.5/5
2008-03-03 01:27
I enjoyed August Rush very much. The story of a lost child finding his parents by "following the music" was beautiful. Sure, you could brush it aside as corny or to sweet but if you're willing to emerse yourself in emotion and romance this is just a great romantic family kind of film. 0.3

 Rambo (2008)
1.5/5
2008-02-25 18:40
Never has the world seen so much gore, blood and guts in a single movie. Way to go Sly! This, obviously monster of a movie makes for example "Hamburger Hill" look like a Disney made kidsmovie. There's no story really, there's no point to anything, there's just John friggin' Rambo, doing what he does best, killing everything that moves, or stands still for that matter. Blood and guts, blood and guts. 0.3
-
 The Air I Breathe (2007)
2.5/5
2008-02-19 20:01
Entertaining. Quite original I guess. I'm a sucker for different storylines practically crashing into eachother and well it's somewhat of an impressive cast. All and all very enjoyable. It's form reminds me of Paris Je t'aime. 0.3
-
 Earth (2007)
2.5/5
2008-02-18 16:11
A feature film based on the Planet Earth TV-series (2006) which is just as great as the series were. Images never seen before, good narration and funny stuff just makes this a briljant nature documentary. 0.3
-
 Into the Wild (2007)
0.5/5
2008-02-18 16:04
I wrote a letter to Sean Penn, asking for my 2 hours and twenty minutes back. Haven't wasted over 2 hours on total crap for a while. It all seemed such a perfect formula for a great movie. A beautiful and true story, an interesting actor, the Alaskan wilderness and Sean friggin' Penn behind it all. Bring on mystic River 2 or whatever. Well, turns out that "Into the Wild" is a bad effort at making some quasy intellectual wannabe philosophical flick. And it sucks even at that. Jeez, I haven't had so much fun shouting at my TV-set for years. The high IMDB-rating and raving reviews just added to the fun. The oh so "deep" monologues were funnier then any stand-up Ive seen, even though they were meant to be all serious and what not. This movie sucks ass, whatever the movie-buffs tell you. 0.3

And When Did You Last See Your Father?...
2/5
2008-02-13 17:09
A fairly depressing drama about a son's relationship with his father both in the present and the past. All is remembered and pondered during the father's deathbed. If you're looking for a happy movie this ain't teh way to go. But its enjoyable. 0.3
-
 Martian Child (2007)
2/5
2008-02-13 02:23
I guess I enjoyed this one, although it's a bit to sweet at times. Always great to watch Cusack though, even though he seems to have to take his sister along for every ride. Anyways, Amanda Peet still is a sight for sore eyes, as always. Enjoyable flick, in a very happy ending family movie kinda way. 0.3
-
 We Own the Night (2007)
2/5
2008-02-09 01:32
A nice story, entertaining. Classic brother-brother and father-son troubles... and a jolly bunch of fake russian criminals topped with some good ol' sweet revenge at the end. Why not. Not the best film ever, but not half bad. 0.3
-
In the Valley of Elah (2007)
2.5/5
2008-02-07 10:48
Let me just say this much: ever since "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada", "No Country for Old Men" and now "In the Valley of Elah" it's absolutely certain; Tommy Lee Jones is like a fine wine ;-) 0.3

 Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)
1.5/5
2008-01-31 15:49
Although enjoyable, Elizabeth The Golden Age had no real lovestory, no real action in it and seems only to want to portray the Queen and her charachter, which it does I suppose. This however doesn't make for a really interesting 2 hours. 0.3
-
 The Kite Runner (2007)
2/5
2008-01-31 15:27
(see frontpage of this website for a more detailed review of this movie) I enjoyed "The Kiterunner" very much. It's always tricky, watching a movie that's based on a book you (and the rest of the world) cherish. But I liked the movie, with its obvious faults. I wonder whether the movie was good because I remembered all that was missing from it, from the book or whether it deserves praise by itself. Guess I'll have to wait for someone who hasn't read the book to review this film. 0.3

The Assassination of Jesse James by the...
1.5/5
2008-01-27 22:06
I just don't know about this one. It really isn't a western as perhaps expected. Also, it's a very slow moving film. The tension between James (Pitt) and Ford (Affleck) is obvious throughout the entire movie and beautifully portrayed. Especially Affleck shows us some great acting, once again. But no, I couldn't stay focused easily and am quite frankly disappointed. 0.3

Shooting in Iraq ... a Cinderella Film...
2.5/5
2008-01-27 15:39
War, Love, God & Madness, or "Shooting in Iraq" is the first film I saw at the IFFR this year and it blew me away. It's a documentary filled with emotions and the story of a filmcrew trying to shoot a movie in the chaos that is the post-Saddam Iraq is amazing 0.3
-
 Naissance des pieuvres (2007)
2/5
2008-01-27 15:33
The second film I saw at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam is a French made film about three young girls who are familiarizing themselves with their own sexuality. Although the topic itself didn't interest me in particular, it still made for a good film. 0.3
-
 A Time To Kill (1996)
3.5/5
2008-01-27 15:30
Hadn't seen this now classic for quite some years and it was every bit as good as I remembered. McConaughey, Bullock, Spacey, Judd and both Sutherland the old and the young! What a cast! Without a doubt a great movie. 0.3
-
 Ned Kelly (2003)
1.5/5
2008-01-24 21:23
"Ned Kelly" is not a great film, but nonetheless very entertaining. I love these kind of westerns. Ledger & Bloom as best mates, outlawed and on the run. 0.3
-
 Lions for Lambs (2007)
1/5
2008-01-23 16:15
The 6.2 they give this film on IMDB seems a bit high if you ask me. Seems like I spend the last 88 minutes watching some kind of propaganda film. Tom Cruise is good at portraying a lying senator, that's a fact though. Do yourself a favour, rent something else. 0.3
-
 Juno (2007)
2.5/5
2008-01-21 14:11
Every once and a while you run into a little gem without any big names, that just turns out to be one of the coolest movies you've seen in a while. This is one of those. Update: Turns out this film is being shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival, so there's your chance! 0.3
-
 The Hunting Party (2007)
3.5/5
2008-01-21 14:09
Exciting, funny and at times moving, The Hunting Party takes us on a trip through war-torn Bosnia in search of a bigtime war-criminal. Enjoyed watching it. 0.3
-
 The Bucket List (2007)
2/5
2008-01-10 20:22
For some reason or other I was forced to stop watching this film somewhere just about when they decide to go on the trip and do the whole list thing... sadly enough I never felt like going back to this movie again. So I can't say if the high rating they give it on IMDB is justified. Watch it and tell me, won't you? 0.3
-
 The Great Debaters (2007)
3/5
2008-01-08 15:36
Denzel Washington at what he does best; being Denzel, in whatever character he portrays. This is not a bad thing. "The Great Debaters" is, if you allow yourself to be emerged in it's sugary sweet story, a gripping and beautiful tale of a young afro-american debate team from a small college that teaches the world a valuable lesson. 0.3
-
 Atonement (2007)
3/5
2008-01-07 14:15
Atonement shows, in an interesting way, what false accusation does to an expiring love between a rich young woman (Knightly) and one of the family's servants (McAvoy). I won't say more as not to spoil the rest, but I'm sure you'll enjoy this drama / lovestory. 0.3
-
 The Flock (2007)
2.5/5
2008-01-06 19:42
Well I honestly don't understand why The Flock gets rated a mere 5.8 on IMDB. I enjoyed watching this 8mm-style film. At times it was less grewsome, at others it wasn't. Danes does well as a somewhat naive young woman and well Gere's character is a bit unrealistically over the edge for my taste. But all and all it was enjoyable..and I don't even like thrillers that much. I wouldn't go and see it in the cinema, but it won't mess up movienight either. 0.3
-
 Gone Baby Gone (2007)
3.5/5
2008-01-03 16:21
Way the go Affleck-family! Casey Affleck rocks in this suspenseful thriller. Ed Harris, as so often, plays a decent role and well..let me just say when old Ed says "If you see me coming you better run 'cause I'm gonna lay you the FUCK down".. well...watch this film. 0.3
-
No Country for Old Men (2007)
3.5/5
2008-01-03 16:19
Not a fan of the Coen brothers but this is a good film, without doubt. I dunno if I'd agree with the 8.8 they give it on IMDB but I did indeed enjoy watching it. 0.3

 I Am Legend (2007)
3.5/5

A good old "Will Smith End of The World Saga" which doesn't in any way dissappoint! 0.3
-
 Rescue Dawn (2006)
3.5/5
2007-12-19 16:55
I had particularly high expectations for "Rescue Dawn" and am sad to say they weren't met. It's been a while since we were treated to a decent war movie and I was honestly looking forward to a good old Vietnam flick. The story is simple and attractive but somehow things seem slow and nothign actually seems to happen after the initial escape. All and all it's still quite ok to watch but this could have been a way better movie. 0.3
-
 Eastern Promises
2/5
2007-12-19 16:50
I dunno. I guess it was ok. Mortensen did allright and it was fun that they chose to actually speak quite a lot of Russian in the film but other then that it failed to impress. 0.3

 The Ten (2007)
1.5/5
2007-12-19 16:47

 American Gangster (2007)
3.5/5
2007-10-29 20:36
It's been long, much too long since we were treated to a real gangstermovie with some decent actors. Denzel does well, and so does mr Crowe. This one has it all. 0.3

 Fracture (2007)
2/5
2007-10-20 19:56
Fracture has shown that it's not impossible to write a decent film within the crime/murder/trial genre. It's been a while since one was produced with an original story. Surprisingly entertaining. 0.3
